Ocean Rodeo x DAVE KAY

Shaping the Future: collaboration with master board designer

Ocean Rodeo is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking collaboration with renowned board shaper Dave Kay to build the next generation of boards — made to ride hard and last longer.

We’ve made the call to renew our twin tip board lineup — because the Ocean Rodeo brand deserves fresh shapes, modern layups, and a ride feel that reflects where the sport is today.

We’re proud to introduce two all-new designs:
• The Tempest, stepping in as the next evolution of the Tumbler
• The Surge, replacing the Smoothy with a fresh take on freeride performance

Both boards have been developed in collaboration with our longtime friends and trusted design partners, Dave (DK) and Su Kay. With over 20 years of experience crafting high-performance boards for some of the biggest names in the industry, DK and Su bring unparalleled expertise, innovation, and a deep understanding of how a board should feel under your feet — fast, responsive, and built to handle whatever you throw at it.

The Legacy of Dave Kay

Dave and Su Kay are no stranger to the world of kiteboarding and performance board design. Their craftsmanship has been sought after by elite riders and brands alike, with a reputation for blending cutting-edge materials with designs that enhance both speed and control. Their boards have powered riders to podiums and personal bests, making them one of the most respected shapers in the industry.

What to Expect from the Collaboration

This partnership between DK and Ocean Rodeo aims to take twin tip board design to the next level. Riders can expect a combination of advanced construction techniques, lightweight yet durable materials, and a design philosophy that prioritizes both performance and comfort. The boards will be engineered to cater to various riding styles, whether you’re boosting big air, carving through waves, or executing technical freestyle tricks.

Here’s what DK had to say about the new shapes:

“The new Ocean Rodeo Tempest and Surge leverage both my years of experience and the latest computational designtools. Both boards are tuned in terms of outline and laminate to achieve the best possible ride for Freeride and Big Airkiting. The Surge uses a 100% Basalt lamination for durability combined with a reactive ride. The Tempest takes this upa level with a Basalt/Carbon laminate for lighter weight and even faster response ”

Cutting-Edge Technology and Materials

With a shared passion for innovation, DK and Ocean Rodeo are set to integrate state-of-the-art materials into these new boards. Expect both precision-molded and carbon construction, refined rocker lines for enhanced pop and stability, and flex patterns designed to maximize control in all conditions. The goal? To deliver twin tips that feel like an extension of the rider’s body—responsive, smooth, and powerful.

Designed for Every Rider

One of the key aspects of this collaboration is the focus on accessibility. While performance is paramount, these boards are being designed with versatility in mind. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or an ambitious beginner, Ocean Rodeo’s new twin tips, shaped by Dave Kay, will cater to a wide range of skill levels and riding preferences.
