ikSurfMag Talks Pilot Bar

When iKsurf mag approached us with questions on our thoughts on control bars and where they fit in the grand scheme of the sport we couldn’t help but talk to them about how our present offering will start to affect the future. Having just released the pilot bar Ocean Rodeo was already ready to answer questions with them on what was most prevalent on our bar.

“Possibly the most overlooked and underrated bit of equipment in your quiver, the control bar is the connection between rider and kite. To find out more about this crucial piece of equipment”

While our pro riders were out competing hard in Morocco at the GKA world tour, they were able to get away from the action just long enough to pass our Next Gen Roam to the team over at The Kite Mag. Here’s a little excerpt from their article.

The Kite Mag’s Take

“there is a lovely smooth delivery of power as you dive the kite and then it drives forward in the window and delivered plenty of power for cruising around. Also impressive was the upwind performance which seemed to defy the laws of physics as it feels like the kite is sitting pretty deep but it still really trucks you upwind.”

A Wave Kite Like No Other

The Roam is Ocean Rodeo’s dedicated wave kite and the kite of Choice for Ocean Rodeo’s GKA pro rider’s Carla Herrera and Reece Myerscough. Built with a No Excuses attitude this kite is second to none in wave riding.

Ocean Rodeo had an absolute strong showing this week in Viana do Castelo, Portugal as the GKA’s Kitesurf World Tour held its third event of the season. The event had no choice but to move at a frantic pace as windless conditions forced the tournament to be conducted in just a single day. Ocean Rodeo proved to be up to the task as Carla Herrera and Reece Myerscough were eager to hit the waves since landing in Portugal the week prior.

The Rookie Reece Continues to Shine

Reece displayed what his board could do both on the waves and behind the scenes. Reece’s custom board allowed him to win one of his heats, and perform never before seen technicality in front of the judges through the event. Knowing that there is some growth ahead, and the next event upcoming in Tarifa there is a real sense that the GKA rookie is settling in and poised to make some real noise for the back half of the series.

Carla Goes on a Tour de Force

Carla was zoned in and determined to make up ground in the overall standings as she made one amazing run to cap off the women’s event. After a heartbreaking first heat loss she then went on an absolute tear winning the next eight straight heats to place third. With this win she’s closed the gap between her and Ines Correia and in prime position to be in the top three this year.

With the next event in Carla’s hometown of Tarifa both Ocean Rodeo team riders are more than motivated to show what no excuses kiting looks like and to keep stunning the competition.

Our OBX 2018 Trip is a Wrap!

Our OBX 2018 Trip is a Wrap!

Our Annual crew trip to Hatteras was an amazing to say the least! Another sold out week at Kitty Hawk resort followed up by a great meeting of several Ocean Rodeo crews in the area. Brand new Ocean Rodeo gear and unreleased equipment were on in full display.

“The OBX trip is so amazing, because it brings a group of people together from all different works of life, scattered throughout the continent, based on one common passion.  Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks of North Carolina  is the perfect setting for such an event, for so many reasons. The best sessions of peoples lives are likely to take place there throughout the span of a week, because you can have epic conditions for every possible discipline of the sport, whether it be the flat water through Planet of the Apes, or perfect side shore overhead peelers on the outside.

And the resort… each room having its own large balcony with a hot tub facing west towards the sunsets, lets you experience the action up close and personal.  We were lucky enough this year to have 10m sunset sessions almost every night, where you could easily kite into the night lit by the shine of the full moon rising in the east, and the brilliant smoothy orange hues of the sun setting over the west.”

“It’s a Great Sign of what’s to come.”

“The only issue we had over the weekend was that we didn’t have enough demo gear to keep up with the demand!”

Gaspard Takes 6th At Défi Kite in Gruissan

Gaspard Takes 6th At Défi Kite in Gruissan!

Ocean Rodeo Brand Ambassador Gaspard Dabbadie put Ocean Rodeo’s Flite on full display as a true performance kite last weekend at the Défi Kite 2018 De Grussian.

Gaspard was a force as he proved that tube kites can be as competitively fast as traditional race foil kites. Flying out on an Ocean Rodeo Flite he was drawing great attention as he finished 6th overall in a pool of 325 total competitors. In the top 10 finishes over the weekend, Gaspard was the only one to be using a Tube Kite. Optimistic about his finish he’s hoping to jump up more spots on future foiling events, knowing that the Flite will be the perfect tool for the job.

Gaspard’s magenta Flite turned heads throughout the weekend, drawing attention as a kite that has incorporated speed and foil riding into it’s design for this generation.

Gaspard’s kites were the 8 and 10m Ocean Rodeo Flite at Defi. Want more info? click the link below

WELCOME CARLA HERRERA!

WELCOME CARLA HERRERA!

WELCOME CARLA HERRERA!

Ocean Rodeo Sports Inc. Is proud to announce its newest addition to our roster of team riders, Carla Herrera. Carla brings utmost excitement, innovation, and a leader who wants more women to be involved in the sport of kiteboarding.

Carla is coming into this Global Kitesports Association (GKA) World Tour poised to make noise. Having finished 4th for the past two years , and 7th in the Spain Kiteboarding League’s Strapless division (1st amongst Women). This year, Carla isn’t aiming for anything except for the top of the podium on tour. Her no excuses attitude fits with our own, and we’re excited to have her as a team rider with Ocean Rodeo.

Carla will be riding on Next Gen Ocean Rodeo Kites (specifically the Roam and Prodigy) for the remainder of the GKA World Tour, as well as any other international events that she is able to qualify for and make. To compliment this she will be using our Ocean Rodeo back line trim bar – The Stick Shift.

Trying out the kites for only a couple of sessions Carla was amazed at the performance, ease of use, and ability to unlock her full potential ahead of the GKA event this week in Dakhla, Morocco. In combination with our innovative Stick Shift she has everything she needs to focus on her performance over the need to focus on her equipment.

I met Carla at the first stop of the GKA tour in Cape Verde this past February and was impressed with her riding style and interest to help us step our game with women specific equipment.

Carla is an amazing addition to our Pro Team, and will also be a great provider of insight as Ocean Rodeo continues to develop new equipment with women riders in mind as we have always strived to do as a rider owned company.
