The Race to Alaska is Upon us

The Race to Alaska is Upon us

The Race To Alaska is Live!

Leaving at the crack of dawn this morning, the Race to Alaska began it’s trial run from Port Townsend, Washington to Victoria, BC, Canada. The next leg of the race? a grueling 750 mile cold water race all the way to Ketchikat, Alaska. Such a long and daunting task requires a true No Excuses attitude which is exactly why Ocean Rodeo is a sponsor of the race and all its graceful chaos.

Follow The Race From Home

For all you Tracker Junkies, R2AK has an active tracker for you to follow the action no matter where you are. See who is topping each division, who is defying the odds and who is crazy enough to attempt this race with nothing more than a stand up paddle board.

A suit that will be able to keep you dry in the conditions set before these racers. It’s almost become synonymous with the race itself. Ocean Rodeo is proud to be the drywear of choice on the R2AK. Built to be adaptive to varying conditions the Ignite ensures the R2AK racers won’t overheat in calmer conditions, and will stay dry when they turn for the worst.

Ocean Rodeo had an absolute strong showing this week in Viana do Castelo, Portugal as the GKA’s Kitesurf World Tour held its third event of the season. The event had no choice but to move at a frantic pace as windless conditions forced the tournament to be conducted in just a single day. Ocean Rodeo proved to be up to the task as Carla Herrera and Reece Myerscough were eager to hit the waves since landing in Portugal the week prior.

The Rookie Reece Continues to Shine

Reece displayed what his board could do both on the waves and behind the scenes. Reece’s custom board allowed him to win one of his heats, and perform never before seen technicality in front of the judges through the event. Knowing that there is some growth ahead, and the next event upcoming in Tarifa there is a real sense that the GKA rookie is settling in and poised to make some real noise for the back half of the series.

Carla Goes on a Tour de Force

Carla was zoned in and determined to make up ground in the overall standings as she made one amazing run to cap off the women’s event. After a heartbreaking first heat loss she then went on an absolute tear winning the next eight straight heats to place third. With this win she’s closed the gap between her and Ines Correia and in prime position to be in the top three this year.

With the next event in Carla’s hometown of Tarifa both Ocean Rodeo team riders are more than motivated to show what no excuses kiting looks like and to keep stunning the competition.

Our OBX 2018 Trip is a Wrap!

Our OBX 2018 Trip is a Wrap!

Our Annual crew trip to Hatteras was an amazing to say the least! Another sold out week at Kitty Hawk resort followed up by a great meeting of several Ocean Rodeo crews in the area. Brand new Ocean Rodeo gear and unreleased equipment were on in full display.

“The OBX trip is so amazing, because it brings a group of people together from all different works of life, scattered throughout the continent, based on one common passion.  Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks of North Carolina  is the perfect setting for such an event, for so many reasons. The best sessions of peoples lives are likely to take place there throughout the span of a week, because you can have epic conditions for every possible discipline of the sport, whether it be the flat water through Planet of the Apes, or perfect side shore overhead peelers on the outside.

And the resort… each room having its own large balcony with a hot tub facing west towards the sunsets, lets you experience the action up close and personal.  We were lucky enough this year to have 10m sunset sessions almost every night, where you could easily kite into the night lit by the shine of the full moon rising in the east, and the brilliant smoothy orange hues of the sun setting over the west.”

“It’s a Great Sign of what’s to come.”

“The only issue we had over the weekend was that we didn’t have enough demo gear to keep up with the demand!”

Gaspard Takes 6th At Défi Kite in Gruissan

Gaspard Takes 6th At Défi Kite in Gruissan!

Ocean Rodeo Brand Ambassador Gaspard Dabbadie put Ocean Rodeo’s Flite on full display as a true performance kite last weekend at the Défi Kite 2018 De Grussian.

Gaspard was a force as he proved that tube kites can be as competitively fast as traditional race foil kites. Flying out on an Ocean Rodeo Flite he was drawing great attention as he finished 6th overall in a pool of 325 total competitors. In the top 10 finishes over the weekend, Gaspard was the only one to be using a Tube Kite. Optimistic about his finish he’s hoping to jump up more spots on future foiling events, knowing that the Flite will be the perfect tool for the job.

Gaspard’s magenta Flite turned heads throughout the weekend, drawing attention as a kite that has incorporated speed and foil riding into it’s design for this generation.

Gaspard’s kites were the 8 and 10m Ocean Rodeo Flite at Defi. Want more info? click the link below
