I filmed and edited this video last year in November during my trip in Brazil. We had the chance to discover this new spot and I wanted to film some kite action there.

The video feature Linn and I kiteboarding all the spots on ilha do Guajiru with other pro kitesurfers like Evandro Da silva ( 1st KPWT in Brazil and 2nd PKRA Brazil) also using  the ocean rodeo diablo and zen board during this movie and pro windsurfers from Brazil.

You can find some cool freestyle handle pass action, old school but also nice windsurfing freestyle tricks during this video.

Serious things now, after Tarifa we flew back to the south of France where I spent some time with my family before to head to Saint Julien in Medoc, close to Bordeaux in the south west of France where the most important wine great  growths are present. If you like good wine it is the place to be !

The "Garonne" is the big river passing by the small villages before to end up in the Atlantic Ocean close to Lacanau and some of the best  beach breaks in the world. The strong Atlantic tides affect the river flow several times a year during the big tide "coefficient" which was 105 yesterday. After a quick search on internet we found out with my uncle and some friends that the village of Saint pardon close by the river "La Dordogne" a  part of "Garonne" was hosting an amazing tidal wave... we then did a quick search on youtube and found some pretty cool small videos showing off this amazing long wave rolling along the river and where people were surfing. It looks so fun that we decided to head there the next day.

We arrived on this small village knowing nothing on how to actually surf those waves or where to go. But as soon as we were on site  we saw many cars parked and several people with all kind of flotable devices on the roof of their cars, on the side of their bikes or on top of their head walking towards the river.

The river is approximately 300 meters wide at the point where we arrived.

The tidal wave is generated by the current of the river going in the opposite direction of the strong tide coming in the river creating a small long wave, this effect is called the "Mascaret" and is a big organization each time it happens in "Saint Pardon" the village we headed actually located 100 km away from the river mouth.

The wave is braking away from the Ocean coming up along the river.

 The road is closed to let people watch on the side of the River and over 70 people are on the water with all kind of boards, kayak or Jet ski to surf this amazing wave .

Once we arrived, Laurent prepared his SUP while I took a small longboard. You need to use pretty big boards if you wanna be able to catch the wave and stay on it for a while. When you arrive it is very difficult to realize that so far from the Ocean a wave is going to break here on this muddy brown water, flat as a lake.

The wave was scheduled for 7:34 pm and is suppose to arrive on time. So every body paddled far out where the wave is suppose to start breaking . We didn't know at all what to expect or where to place to be able to catch the wave but we tried to follow the ones who looks like they knew what they were doing and waited for "the wave" on this quiet river...

At 7:33 pm a big noise woke up everybody, it was  several jet skis coming down followed by the wave. We knew it was coming so we started to find the right spot with not to many people on the way.

The wave just came, very small first and started to brake and grow slowly along the shore. I then paddled in stood up and was able to surf for real on this small wave pushing over 50 surfers, kayaks and more. First I was on the first wave where everybody had to go straight board against board, but then I had the chance to catch the 3rd vawe where I could actually surf. I was alone on this 3rd one and could cross half the river frontside, come back backside  turning around and surfed more than 8 min, over a km.

When we passed over the place where hundreds of people where watching and they were all cheering and clapping their hands, it was very fun and I hope to do it an other time.

For now , Linn and I will be heading to the west coast , around Lacanau to surf a bit and then we  may spend a couple days in Paris to relax and visit !

Next kiteboarding trip will be around the beginning of August !

It's been a while since the last real update where I speak about where I am and what I am doing .

So let's go back a couple weeks ago when Linn and I were still in Tarifa for the Ocean Rodeo meeting to try out the new gear. I had a super good time there with the Ocean Rodeo dealers and riders coming from all over Europe on the beach and in the town where the nightlife is tiering. I met there my friend Lee with whom I was fishing in the Grenadines, he is a good friend and we had a very good time.

During those few days  we shot several pictures of the new zen board, the new mako king, the 2010 rise and the 2010 diablo. I was really surprised on how the mako king react in the waves.  More info about this freeride wave board and the other boards at:7

Ocean Rodeo Race Report 7.23.09 – Big Kites, High Wind, Survival Racing

OVERPOWERED! That pretty much sums up this Thursday’s races.  Light inside winds fooled all the racers who rigged 11, 12 or 13m kites.  By the middle of the first race we all new that was a bad choice.  Racing took place under low fog that was so thick it was almost raining and seas that went from fairly smooth to big chop as the night went on.

By the 2nd race winds were gusting into the 30’s and racers were getting out of control.  I had over 12” of depower line pulled, could barely control my speed, and holding an edge was challenging.

By the 3rd race things got downright dangerous with lots of riders blowing up as they couldn’t control their speed.  Approaching the finish I found myself catapulted off my board and skipping across the water backwards.  Everyone was glad to finish and get back to the beach safely.  Thankfully there were no tangles as they would have been especially dangerous. 

Fortunately a small field of 34 allowed riders the space they needed to deal with the poor steering of fully sheeted kites.

Visiting champ Sean Farley (North) dominated the field once again and was the only rider able to grab a smaller kite between races.  Jeff Kafka (Cabrinha, POW boards) finished 2nd and Shawn Richman (RRD) took 3rd.

Stefaans Viljoen (Ocean Rodeo) was among the ridiculously overpowered and landed in 6th, with the other OR riders finishing as follows: Evan Stolze (8th ) , Andrew Galbraith (9th), Chris Brown (11th), Eric Geleynse (14th), Rick Larson (21st), Allen Chung (22nd) and Erin Loscocco (26th).

This was the last Thursday night race until the World Championships which run from August 4th-8th here in San Francisco.  I’ll be racing along with much of the OR team, so look for updates from the water as the competition progresses.

German Tour Continues

Well, thought I would check in with another update from the road. Rolf and I continue to make great inroads into the German market with another 2 great days of riding and promoting the new 2010 equipment. 

We spent 2 full days in Greifswald with Mathias and crew from Kite Engle.DE. Mathias and his local crew showed us a good time on the water and on the town, spending both days riding at one of the most intimidating spots I've ever been, right in the shaddow of a decomissioned soviet era nuclear power plant! Yes, my friends we were deep into East Germany and yes, we rode at this spot and I have to admit, once I realized I was not getting radiation poisoning I was super stoked because the spot was sweet with nice waves to enjoy and huge sections of flat water!

After Greifswald we headed north and west to Barth. Barth is a beauty of a town right on the Baltic (as is Greifswald). For those who have not visited this area of the world the Baltic Sea is a real trip. It is almost entirely fresh water! With only a small slice of open ocean above Denmark the bulk of the sea is made up of fresh water run off and is barely salty. It is also quite warm as a result and barely has a tide... very cool. Barth itself is too sheltered to ride in normally so we headed slightly out of town to a sweet spot that catches the west winds. Check out this map to see exactly where we rode! (Click here)

The day was one hell of a day to be riding actually. Throughout the day massive squalls were rolling through with the mean wind speed being about 20 knots but easily jumping above 40 in the squalls. The locals took it all in stride though, while Rolf and I ran around frantically trying to secure the equipment and make sure no one got hurt! Here is a great shot of a 2010 Diablo just in front of the path of one of the squalls.... nuts.

I'll be sure to post more as the trip continues! We have a couple fun days ahead with some more shops and then we spend 4 days at the German National Kiteboard Chapionship in St Peter Ording! There will for sure be a posting and photos from there!

Ocean Rodeo Spain and Germany 2009

Europe, thus far!

After a very long but somewhat enjoyable (given the situation) flight from Seattle to Amsterdam I touched ground at 7am local time, July 7th at Shiphol international airport in Amsterdam. A quick nap and shower later and I was downtown Amsterdam enjoying a Heineken and the wonderful sites of a beautiful cosmopolitan city.

Early the next morning I was off to Malega and onto Tarifa with all the Spanish Crew from Boardriders.

4 full days of testing in Tarifa Spain has proved that the 2010 equipment is incredible and that Ross has once again proven he is the world's foremost kite designer. The new Rise has incredible lift with its new XPD Technology Design and open middle canopy. The turning is snappy and the glide in a jump is unbelieveable. The 2010 Diablo did not fail to impress either with a line of Spainish riders waiting to get on the samples I had on hand. Similarly the new Mako and Zen boards really blew the riders away, the new shapes of Mako being the most popular for demos with the Mako King taking top honours for the most in demand product on the beach. Set it up goofy or regular but there is nothing goofy about a mutant mako making the rounds! This board is "muy suave"!

After an incredible stay in Tarifa, a town I fully intend to revisit, we had a final dinner with the Spanish Crew that ran late into the evening (in Spain breakfast is had at noon, lunch at 6 and dinner at midnight) and we drove through the night for a 7am flight back to Amsterdam. Feeling like I was on repeat I touched town in Amsterdam for the 2nd time in a week exhausted, only this time I had a much better tan and a far better idea of how to get around!

From Amsterdam we drove to a small town called Mirns to visit with the Flitzer Crew from Berlin. (http://www.flitzer-berlin.de/). Dirk and his Crew of German riders run kite camps all over the world all year long and are an incredibly fun and generous group. Our first night there we ate well and drank many beers, Rolf laughing at their German jokes, most of them aimed at the only non-german speaking guy there... ha ha ha, actually, they all made many attempts to involve me and their English was excellent!

After a fond farewell fromt the Fitzer Crew we rolled into Germany, off to Neustadt, Germany and the Steinhuder Meer, a beautiful lake in inland North Germany. Here we met with Ralph and his Crew from Surfer's Paradise and received another warm German welcome followed by more German beer and jokes I did not understand...

Unfortunately we were unable to ride what looked like an incredible location as the winds did not co-operate but we made great contacts with Surfer's Paradise and will be seeing them and the Flitzer Crew next week at the German Nationals!

Ocean Rodeo Ukraine Team Rider 3rd Place Freestyle!!

Congrats to Alexander Minmenko on fininshing third this past weekend in the freestyle segment of the Ukranian Kiteboarding Championships!! Once again one of our Ukranian brothers has made it to the podium...for the 5th time this year.

Ocean Rodeo Race Report – 7/9/09 San Francisco – The Pros come to town

Local racers arrived to Crissy Field Thursday night to face the largest field of the season and stiff competition.  The pack of 41 racers included U.S. National champ Sean Farley, European champ Bruno Sroka and visiting heavyweights Paolo Rista, Stefano Rista and board designer Nils Stolzlechtner.  These guys are here to get ready for the World Championships to be held August 5th – 8th at Crissy Field.

The wind was nuking as racers arrived with gusts well into the mid 30’s.  Many riders considered 8m and 9m kites, but local opinion that things would calm persuaded most to go on their 10m.  This proved to be the right call as wind eased off by race time and left us with good, but slightly gusty and holey wind. 

Despite the huge field we had one of the cleanest races of the season with only 1 or 2 minor tangles.  At race committee competitors were reminded about the rules barring barging and squatting on the start line and it seems the message finally sunk in.

Sean Farley (North) took first with a 3,1,1 finish.  He was followed by Bruno Sroka (Cabrihna) 2,2,2 and Paolo Rista (Cabrihna) 5,5,3.  Sean was riding a Nils design board while Bruno and Paolo were both on boards designed by Paolo.  Chip Wasson (Ozone) and Stefaans Viljoen (Ocean Rodeo) rounded out the top five.

These results will change as Farley went through the finish line on all three of his downwind runs, a rule violation that will disqualify him and move everyone else up a place.

Stefaans showed once again that the Ocean Rodeo custom race board can easily keep up with the best in the world!  His continued top scoring and Kafka's wins on the board 2 weeks ago have proven the basic design, expect future tweaking to make this board even better.

The rest of the Ocean Rodeo Team finished as follows: Andrew Galbraith 11th, Chris Brown 13th, Allen Chung 15th, Evan Stolze 16th, Eric Geleynse 19th, Jim Keenen 23rd and Erin Loscocco 25th.  Evan suffered one of the night’s few tangles at the start of race 3, but recovered well.  Again, with Farley’s disqualification everyone will move up one spot.

The results of the first Cabrinha Mini Series also came in since the last post.
Chip Wasson finished first with Geoff Headington  and OR’s Stefaans Viljoen rounding out the top 3.  OR’s Evan Stolze also finished well in 8th place.

Jeremie Tronet In Spain - Cover Kitespain magazine #4 + Wakestyle ITW and sequence

After having spent over a week in Marseilles in the south of France for the Orange Massilia freestyle cup, I'm now in Malaga , in the south of Spain to meet the Ocean Rodeo Spanish importer from www.oceanrodeo.es . The Contest in Marseilles was a great success with a lot of different action sport represented, a lot of media and some good riders from all over the world. We did some really cool demos and a small contest between the riders, it was a lot of fun !

Spain is also a nice place for kiteboarding, the weather is nice, the thermal wind is good, we  had the chance with Linn to go kite to Los Alamos, the main spot in Malaga, but also to try out some other nice secret spot where less people are riding. In fact , the summer in Spain can be super busy with a lot of kites in the water.

We are heading today to Tarifa with John Z for the annual Ocean Rodeo crew meeting ! It will be the occasion to try out the brand new 2010 gear which I 'll leak on  this website as soon as possible. I can already tell you that the boards look very nice and the kite improved again !

The new kitespain magazine is online, this new issue is really beautiful with sick pictures.

The first pictures coming out from Venezuela are in this magazine where I answered an interview about freestyle and wakestyle. It is over 8 full pages coverage for me in this new issue and the cover which we took in Isla Coche with Linn !
