can somone tell me if OR kites can flag out to only one front line, like the Ozone kites?
I am wondering if i can use the Ozone bar with OR kites, as i see that they have same the pigtails on the bar(loops on front and knots on back lines)
Welcome to the Crew! Here’s a repost of the answer I posted on KF earlier:
OR bars have loops on the front lines and pigtails with knots on the back lines. All OR kite except the discontinued Diablo 5 line C kite flag out to both front lines. 2011 and later feature “roll over bridles” that leave the kite on it’s back like as if on a 5th.
Depending on your riding style you have to make sure the bar you use on an OR kite provides enough bar stroke. The Ozone bars I think would be good.
Hope this helps, cheers,
thanks for the reply,I saw it on KF also, much appriciated! Now you say they flag to both front lines and sit on its back, but what do you think would happend if you flagged it to only one line? The kite would spin? Would it still land on its back? Because Ozone kites, when you flag them they land on the water exactly the way you have a kite on the beach, so the wind blows over it!
And now i am confused, because on this two sites it says one single line flag out:
Also i see that the other poster “janus” said that i need some pigtails on back lines. So does this mean that OR does not have all lines the same lenght?
Previous to the roll over safety bridle setup the O.R. bar provided the option of a single front line punchout &/or a handle @ the swivel closest to the kite for flagging a single front line when desired. http://oceanrodeo.com/images/uploads/kiting/pdf/PunchUpBarManual_2006.pdf There was a problem with this fouling on the wider connection @ the swivel & this option was dropped. HOWEVER if you need to flag out off one line the REAR lines can be used. Punch out, grab a front line handle & be sure & release your safety line. http://oceanrodeo.com/images/uploads/kiting/pdf/fusion-bar-2011-manual.pdf (page #11 re-ride handle). With respect to line length the ‘pig tail’ required on your back lines = the longer ‘chicken loop’ line enabling all lines to be equal @ the kite.
The Ozone bar will work subject to line lenghts .The kites will flag on one line it just that flagging on 2 front lines gives an easier relaunch ( No spinning). Don’t get to caught in the BS . A bar is a aluminium tube and lines are string. Makes thing so much simpler. That said the contoured bar from OR is lovely to handle
Thanks guys for the replies!
Well yes sunruse i know its just a stick with strings my biggest concern is the relaunch after i flag out, i dont want to get the kite tangled up!
jl i didnt quite get what you ment with “With respect to line length the ‘pig tail’ required on your back lines = the longer ‘chicken loop’ line enabling all lines to be equal @ the kite. ” Did you mean that you need the pigtails only if you have long throw on the bar? Pigtails arent a real problem anyways, but still good to know as much as you can before testing for yourself Also, did you mean you can use a REAR line re-ride?
Ah 2006 was a good year for bars . Mine is still going strong though the grip wore off years ago.
Mine has the freeride roll over setup but I’ve kept the velcro punch up release. Newbie:Yes I added pig tails to my rear lines as part of a mod. to achieve the long throw. & Yes the REAR line re-ride can be used in an emergency. Please read the pdf link. http://oceanrodeo.com/images/uploads/kiting/pdf/fusion-bar-2011-manual.pdf page # 11 ... Typo. corrected, thanks.
