Definitely an issue with tuning/bar/kite. The 2008 8m was one of the best kites we’ve ever made…....! Sure, the 2010 is better but the ‘08 was a killer kite.

I also have some trouble with my 08 8m rise.
It doesnt seem to depower properly, the rear lines just go slack when i push the bar out. I wish it flew like my 08 12m.

Jacobb do you have the elastic still attached to the struts at the trailing edge. If yes remove it. Some kites it was to tight and gave a weird flying characteristics. May be clutching at straws

thanks,  on both my 2008 kites there are 6 black elastic bands about 10 cm sewn onto the kites trailing edge and then sewn onto the struts at the trailing edge - should i try to cut them with scissors on my 8m2??  (for your information they are not there accidently and seems very much there for a purpose   - but im open for suggestions if someone have good experiences

yes i feel my 8m2 is doing the same,  does your 8m2 have the same characteristics as i described (fly overhead etc) or is the depower the only challenge for you?

I only have the depower problem with this kite.

I would highly suggest taking the time and measuring all of your bridle segments…perhaps one of them is stretched or incorrect? I flew the 08 8m for years and it is a sick kite.

Check the length of the E2 bridle. This is the short piece of 2.5mm spectra that the pulley rides on. On the 2008 8m it should be 18” or 45.7cm, measured from knot to knot. If it`s longer than this then the kite will be prone to stalling and hard to depower.

I have these elastics on my 09 8m Rise.  Should they be trimmed off?

The elastics should be left in place to help prevent snags during launching.
Unless…
the kite feels like it doesn’t depower and is cupping the wind, like an old 2 liner.
Your kite should track effortlessly and depower smoothly, if not-
then, only the elastics at the very end of the leading edge should be removed, near the rear line attachments.
I was amazed how this little bit of cupping distortion can effect the flight until fixed a 1st batch 12m kite myself.
The difference was nite and day!

I found those line deflectors on my 8m and also my 12m. They looked like they were putting tension on the trailing edge so I cut them off. The E2 was stretched about 1” as well.

Now I just need some wind to try it out!!

CUT THE LINE DEFLECTORS if you feel like the kite isn’t flying right.  I had the same issue - my 12 was great and the 8 was the kite from hell.  John Z told me to cut the deflectors, and the kite was instantly 100% better.  It is still amazing how much tightening the trailing edge screwed up the way the kite flew.
