Hey guys,

Started looking at different kites as I want to change in a month or so currently flying North Evo’s and Vegas’s.
I’m not a beginner but want to progress more this year by starting unhooking and adding rotations to my jumps.

What sizes would I bee looking at weighing 10.5 Stone ?? Where I am in the UK we seem to get mainly winds in the 18-35mph Range.

Was looking at a 2 kite quiver with the more expensive brands but seems I could be looking at three with Diablos. My gut feeling was a 8m and 12m then possible add the 6m if I’m getting over powered on the 8m a lot.

What would the top end be on the 8m ??

Jim

(Thanks Harry_a for posting photos up on Kitecrowd wink )

just call me senor pimp..

8 and 12 does me at 12 stone, and i’d have no prob taking the 8 out in 30. 25 was perfect on it..dont know how much above though, i’ve yet to find out. you’d be able to hold the 6 in shedloads im sure of that.

BigJim, welcome to the Crew! Stoked you’re making the jump to Ocean Rodeo and I look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

I’d have to agree with Harry’s take on the situation!

Don’t discount the 10m. I’m very similar in weight and the 10 gets me going in around 14mph with a 129x39 tt

Some would say that at our weight 8 and 10 would be a good quiver…..6m for nuking conditions I’d say but beware probably a very fast kite?

Of course the 12m will have a better low end but by how much I’d like to know?

Perhaps the 10 would have better top end for a lighter rider enabling a one kite quiver (or the 6m?) and two boards - one big one small?

The Mako King would be a real improvement in low winds with the 10m and in my mind would do away with the need to have a bigger kite than the 10. I think there is so much more scope and fun to be had with the King than anything like a directional, large twin or skim board. I speak as someone who has not used a directional/surf board to any great degree.

Your pretty light,  The 12/8 would work great.  Pick up a 6 later if you find your maxing out the 8.

But what about the 10? Don’t you think he’d make more use of that than the 12 at his (and my) weight?

Where in the UK are you ‘Big’ (at 10.5 stone?) jim?

You’re welcome to give my kite a spin.

the 10 is a great kite, certainly my favorite, but It doesn’t make much sense to get it when an 8 is going to be a perfect fit and the 12 will be a great big kite.  I’m jealous of anyone that can get away with a 12 diablo as their big kite!  I love the 14 but its always nicer to be on a smaller faster kite when dealing with the big end of things.  12/8 wont disapoint.  10 is too small for a big kite.  12 would be awesome with a surfboard in the light stuff, super fun on a twin lit up and overlap nicely with an 8 for loads of high wind fun.  Like I said.  Pick up a 6 later if you feel the need.  Its a pretty high wind kite even for lighter people.

I do take on board what everyone is saying here though for a lighter rider and one who is looking for coverage from high ‘teens to 30+ then I’d opt for the 10m as my biggest kite. That too would be good if not very good in light winds with a surf board or something like the Mako King. Don’t you think?

Then opt for the 8m or the 6m depending on how strong wind you really anticipate actually going out in (I use the 7m Rise)

If I had the 12m it would only be for it’s low end ‘cos I know that I could easily get on the 10 in the mid ‘teens and have a whole lot of fun on it to boot.

Anyway he said he maybe looking at a 3 kite OR quiver. That’s easy:

12, 10 and 8

10, 8, and 6

Maybe Harry could let us know about his top end on the 8 when he’s had it or another crew rider could chime in on 6 versus 8 (or the 10 versus 12 for that matter)?

My 10 is still available for demo…..

sunrise also has a couple of 12’s for sale!
