Hi Dan,
I rode the Zen 135 for two years and it did everything I could ask of it.
Great board but… this year I bought a Zen 129 X 39. It does all the 135 does but for me (77kg/168#) plus it seems to have better pop, the same or better low end and of course the “cushy"pads!
The 2008 Zen 135 has wood core construction so it is probably more responsive than my 2006 but if you can, give the 129 x39 a try.
You will like it a lot!

If you go for the 135—> go for the wide! it is an awesome platorm to land powered tricks. Really has crazy amount of pop too! The xtorsion really works amazing for this.

I find the 2008 zen to be better then the 666. (which I found good in flat water but not nice for riding in the ocean) Untill last year my favorite board was the Underground FLX which I like way more than a 666. Now i am totally a fan of the Zen 129 * 39 and 80+kg riders love the zen 135*43.

The woodcore makes the board slightly heavier compared to for example a 08 North board (several have snapped already though). I have not heard of any Zen boards that are broken and it feels like I will not manage to do that either this year.  I would say test a zen next to a 666 and you will probably be stoked!

i was on an f one trax before, had been trying to pop and raley but kept getting a couple of inches and faceplanted.. now ive got the 129x39 zen and i honestly tried it the first time off and did a proper stretched raley. i also find it grippy, but when you want it to it easy scoots round to toeside etc and i have no issues in chop as the thing has so much goddamn flex ( i checked side to side its more than the jamie pro). im 75kg and i have no problems with low end even though its quite small. i can ride and do some pop trickes etc. with my type 7 on it in about 12kts and my 10 rise from about 14.
im no expert and havent tried a huge amount of boards but i found it comparable in performance to my friends lost cause custom, but far more comfy to ride for a long period of time due to the flex.

Jeremie Tronet used to snap boards like chop sticks and has not broken an 08 Zen yet.

We’ve had exactly 2 warranty claims on Zen’s this year, which is incredible. Both were from the same production run and both has an issue with de-laminating at one edge (Andy from our forums got one of these).

Here are a few words I just posted on KF regarding the Zen Wide for heavier riders:

I have both the Zen 129x39 and Zen Wide (135x43) and they are both really smooth boards. These are the first wood core boards I have ridden which seems to make them a bit heavier then the Flexifoil board I normally ride but translates into performance on the water.

Regarding the wide - this is really fun board…it doesn’t seem to have a top end on its wind range, I had it out in 25-30 knots on flat water the other day and the pop was great but it was the landings that were unreal….the wood core just soaked up the landings no matter how hot you landed - it just seamed to absorb the impact without losing any of the power - very smooth. Also the width makes it easier to stick a move and ride out of it without loosing speed.

I think for heavier riders this board is ideal and importantly has enough core stiffness not to lose its riding characteristics with a 200+ pound rider in higher winds. Otherwise it turns great, edges/pops really well and has a very gratifying “tuned suspension” kind of ride. Also, I would not want to see what kind of force it takes to break this board.

Good luck - Feel free to pm me with more questions.

Zen

I tried the Zen wide today,25 knots, waves, choppy…It was a dream…It rocket upwind, it is a smooth ride and it released edge quite easily for the amount of concave it have…

Awesome board with amazing range…

Thanks OR

zen boards

have put alot of hours on both the 129 and the wide zen boards. both are super smooth both on take off and landings. bigger platform with the wide for sure but i think overall the two are almost identical. bigger guy = wide. under 200 = 129. i ride the 129 more often than the wide and i am 170lbs and about 5’5. i think kiteboards are starting to act more and more like snowboards meaning you can choose the board based on your height and weight more so than based on riding style.

if you look ive got a separate thread with some pics on my 129… doesnt prove much i know but i have had lots of comments on how good the pop is… and i find it to be a fast board to ride as well which adds to the fun.
pics are on my 15 in about 11-12kts
